Kalmar has sealed a deal to supply Générale de Manutention Portuaire (GMP) in Le Havre, France, with an additional 4 Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers. The order, valued at nearly 5 million euros, was recorded in Cargotec’s Q3 2023 order intake, and these units are set to be delivered by the close of Q4 2023.
GMP has a longstanding history of utilizing Kalmar straddle carriers since the early 1990s and has already acquired a total of 28 hybrid units since 2020. These eco-efficient machines are instrumental in GMP’s journey to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations, aligning with its strategic sustainability objectives, while also considerably mitigating noise pollution. Moreover, due to the expansion of the quay at GMP Le Havre, there’s a need for more machines to complement their existing fleet of ship-to-shore cranes.
Louis Jonquière, CEO of GMP Le Havre, expressed, “As long-term partners, Kalmar and GMP Le Havre are both dedicated to safe and sustainable cargo handling. Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers have consistently proven to be an excellent match for our operations, making it an easy decision to continue down this path. We eagerly anticipate the arrival of these new additions to our fleet.”
Damien Cols, Director Global Customers at Kalmar, emphasized, “This latest order from GMP Le Havre underscores the confidence that terminal operators have in our established hybrid solutions for emissions reduction and efficiency enhancement. We are delighted to continue our decades-long partnership with a terminal operator that shares our unwavering commitment to shaping a more sustainable future for cargo handling.”
