The Collett Team has completed the delivery of 50 Nordex N133 wind turbines to South Kyle Wind Farm, located 5km east of Dalmellington in both East Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway. The site is the largest onshore wind farm in the UK in terms of power generation and is being constructed by Swedish multinational power generation company, Vattenfall.

To transport the 450 components required to construct the 50 turbines, the Port of Ayr and King George V Dock were used to store and handle the components. The heavier components, such as the nacelles, drive trains, and hubs, arrived at King George V Dock, while the lighter components, including the blades and tower sections, arrived at the Port of Ayr.

The Collett Team utilised a combination of trailers from their fleet to transport the components to the site. On-site, an additional team was in place to undertake tower transport operations and deliver the tower sections to their respective crane pads for just-in-time installation service.

Over the course of the project, Collett transported 150 tower sections, 50 nacelles, 50 hubs, 50 drive trains, and 150 blades to the South Kyle Wind Farm. The team provided dedicated project management from initial route surveys to final delivery, successfully handling all aspects of the project.

Expected to be operational in 2023, the 50 Nordex N133 turbines feature a 133.2m rotor with a swept area of 13,935m2. With a capacity of 240MW, the wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to meet the demands of approximately 170,000 homes annually and offset up to 300,000t of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
