Modulift spreader beams and LMS load cells have been used by Safe Lifting Europe to complete a 660-tonne proof load test on the offshore wind installation vessel MPI Resolution in the North Sea.
The test used a MOD600/800 spreader beam in a 16-metre configuration, together with two 500-tonne LMS load cells positioned beneath the beam. Shackles and additional lifting accessories completed the rigging arrangement.
MPI Resolution is a 130-metre self-elevating jack-up vessel operated by Van Oord and used for offshore wind turbine installation, maintenance and heavy component replacement.
Its crane, rated at 600 tonnes, was tested to 110% of capacity, giving a total proof load of 660 tonnes.
Safe Lifting Europe supplied the complete load testing package, including the spreader beam, load cells, rigging equipment and high-capacity water pumps used to fill and empty the test barge.
“Completing a 660-tonne proof load test on a vessel like the MPI Resolution requires the right equipment, careful planning and full control throughout the operation,” said Giovani Vroegop, General Manager at Safe Lifting Europe.
The project demonstrates the combined use of high-capacity below-the-hook equipment and load monitoring technology in demanding offshore wind lifting applications.
