DP World’s Carbon Inset Programme has registered over 100,000 TEUs of import-laden containers within its first two months. Launched in the UK in December 2024, the six-month trial rewards importers with 50kg CO2e of carbon credits for each loaded container moved through DP World’s London Gateway and Southampton terminals.
If 50% of import cargo owners participate, the initiative could cut over 10,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from supply chains. The credits, generated by DP World’s subsidiary Unifeeder using lower-carbon fuels, are independently verified and pooled quarterly to help businesses meet sustainability goals.
John Trenchard, Vice President – Commercial & Supply Chain, DP World in the UK, highlighted the programme’s early success, stating, “We are committed to providing transparent and pragmatic solutions that drive sustainability.” He emphasized DP World’s broader environmental goals, including a 42% emissions reduction by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.
