Alwayse Engineering, a leading UK manufacturer, is set to unveil its IATA-approved ball transfer unit at the Saudi Airport Exhibition (SAE) 2024. The two-day event, taking place on November 11-12 at the Riyadh International Conference & Exhibition Centre (RICEC), marks the company’s first appearance at the show within the UK Pavilion.
Alwayse’s spotlight at SAE will be on its 805 ball transfer unit, a product specially designed for heavy-duty applications such as air cargo handling. These units, which come in two sizes with 30mm or 45mm load balls, offer an affordable, easy-to-install solution that allows for multi-directional 360-degree movement of the heaviest cargo, including ULDs (Unit Load Devices), pallets, and other large containers.
One of the key advantages of the 805 units is their ability to enhance operational safety. Unlike other manual handling solutions, these ball transfer units require no power sources, forklifts, or robots. Cargo handlers can simply push loads across the ball bearings, minimizing strain and the need for heavy machinery.
Designed with durability and ease of use in mind, the 805 units feature a low-profile steel body with multiple dirt exit holes for simplified cleaning. The slotted base allows debris to escape, ensuring optimal performance. Available in a range of materials, including carbon chrome, nylon, and stainless steel, the units can operate in extreme temperatures from -30°C to 200°C, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Already listed in the IATA specifications, the 805 units have been rigorously tested and successfully adopted by various air cargo handlers, express couriers, and military clients. The 805 is part of a comprehensive range of air cargo handling solutions from Alwayse, which also includes the Flanged Unit for high-impact areas and the Euro Unit for conveyor applications.
Dean Falconer, Head of Global Partnerships at Alwayse Engineering, emphasized the importance of the air cargo sector to the company. “Ball transfer units are an ideal solution for air cargo, offering easy maneuverability combined with enhanced safety at a competitive price point,” he said. “The 805 unit is widely regarded as the go-to option for materials handling, and we’re excited to present it at SAE 2024.”
