Allelys recently played a pivotal role in a significant heat exchanger project located in Teesside by orchestrating the seamless transport of a series of vessels from Teesport to Lazenby. Initially tasked with the responsibility of receiving and delivering two substantial vessels, the first measuring 30 meters in length and weighing a hefty 130 tons, and the second spanning 12 meters and weighing 29 tons, Allelys’ scope of work expanded as they were subsequently contracted to transport additional loads to the site. This expanded scope included the transportation of five smaller vessels, each weighing up to 4.5 tons, along with two ancillary boxes.
Despite the relatively short distance of the route, the successful delivery of the cargo demanded meticulous planning and execution due to its unique characteristics. Notably, the designated route traversed through the British Steel and Teeswork sites, presenting added complexities as the cargo needed to be transported across four sets of rail tracks.
To ensure a smooth and disruption-minimized delivery process, Allelys devised an operation involving convoy transport. This approach not only aimed to reduce disruptions but also accelerate the delivery timeframe. The transportation arsenal included a 7-bed, 6-axle trailer for the 130-ton vessel, a 3-axle wafer deck for the 29-ton vessel, and flatbed trailers for the smaller vessels and ancillary boxes. To support the loads and provide access across the rail tracks, Allelys supplied and laid steel plates strategically.
Upon reaching their destination, the two larger pieces were expertly offloaded using the trailers’ hydraulics, while the smaller loads were efficiently handled using Allelys’ specialized hiab equipment.
Simon Davies, the Project Manager at Allelys, emphasized the project’s significance in demonstrating their unwavering commitment to meticulous planning and execution, regardless of the route’s brevity. He noted, “The project showcases how Allelys treat each and every project with the same diligence. Although the route itself was short, understanding and overcoming the complexities around it were vital for the loads to be delivered successfully.”
