In a significant development, Kuehne+Nagel has clinched a crucial contract with Envision Energy, one of the world’s leading wind turbine supplier. The task at hand is transporting 190 wind turbine generators (WTG) and 67 tower sets to NEOM, Saudi Arabia’s innovative special economic zone.
This ambitious endeavor, slated for completion in 2025, entails the meticulous transportation of a staggering 1.4 million freight tons of WTG. The operation is set to involve a dedicated team of over 100 project logistics professionals, vessel chartering experts, transport engineers, drivers, and riggers, all working in harmony to ensure the operation’s success. To facilitate seamless coordination, a dedicated office has been established in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, to oversee the teams at NEOM’s port and the wind farm site.
NEOM, located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia, is more than just a place; it represents a vision for a sustainable future. The name NEOM itself signifies “new future,” and this forward-thinking initiative aims to become a global model for sustainable urban living, fully powered by renewable energy. One of NEOM’s most renowned projects is “The Line,” a carbon-neutral linear smart city presently under construction along the Red Sea.
Upon completion, the NEOM wind farm is expected to generate an impressive 1.67 GW of renewable energy. This energy will serve as the primary power source for the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company, home to the world’s largest facility for large-scale hydrogen production.
Stefan Paul, CEO of Kuehne+Nagel International AG, expressed his enthusiasm for this milestone achievement within the context of Kuehne+Nagel’s Roadmap 2026, the company’s forward-looking strategy introduced earlier this year. He emphasized the immense potential for providing solutions to renewable energy customers, with the NEOM project serving as a testament to Kuehne+Nagel’s unparalleled logistics expertise in this rapidly growing sector, which plays a pivotal role in the global energy transition.
