AAL Shipping has reported a 19% improvement in its fleet-wide Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) since 2023, reflecting lower carbon emissions per tonne of cargo transported.
According to the company’s 2025 Sustainability Report, fleet-wide EEOI improved from 17.80 in 2023 to 14.40 in 2025, despite fleet growth and higher cargo volumes.
A major contributor has been AAL’s third-generation 32,000 dwt Super B-Class fleet, introduced in 2024. The vessels offer cargo intake capacities exceeding 90,000 FRT and lifting capabilities of up to 800 tonnes.
The Super B-Class achieved the strongest energy-efficiency performance across the fleet, recording average EEOI values of 4.27 in 2024 and 4.99 in 2025.
Alongside fleet modernisation, AAL has invested in voyage optimisation, vessel monitoring and digital technologies aimed at improving fuel efficiency and operational decision-making.
“Customers increasingly want logistics partners that can support both project execution and sustainability objectives,” said Yahaya Sanusi, Deputy Head of Engineering at AAL Shipping.
The company is also preparing for tighter environmental regulation, including FuelEU Maritime, the EU Emissions Trading System and the proposed IMO Net-Zero Framework.
AAL additionally reported zero environmental incidents between 2023 and 2025.
The company said it will continue balancing emissions reduction with the operational requirements of transporting large and complex project cargoes worldwide.
