DP World’s Antwerp Gateway terminal recorded its highest annual container throughput to date in 2025, handling 2,470,700 TEU, an 8.6% increase compared with the previous year.
The milestone performance was achieved despite a challenging global shipping environment marked by supply chain volatility, port congestion and industrial action in parts of the logistics sector. The terminal also reported strong monthly results, with December reaching 224,700 TEU—14% higher than the same month in 2024 and the second-highest monthly figure on record. The peak month remained March 2025, when the facility handled 233,000 TEU.
Located in the Port of Antwerp‑Bruges, the Antwerp Gateway terminal continues to strengthen its position as one of Europe’s key deep-sea container hubs.
Edi Cioran, CEO of DP World Antwerp Gateway, said the record throughput reflects the strength of the terminal’s long-term investment strategy and the commitment of its workforce and customers. He noted that 2025 also marked the terminal’s twentieth anniversary, highlighting two decades of innovation, partnership and growth.
The facility operates 24 hours a day and handles cargo flows for global and regional supply chains at large scale. Each shift involves around 120 dock workers, supported by extensive infrastructure including 15 quay cranes, 63 straddle carriers—55 of them hybrid units—and 23 automated stacking crane modules, with expansion to 27 planned by 2026. The terminal features three large berths, two feeder and barge berths and a 16-metre draft capable of accommodating the world’s largest container vessels.
A major expansion programme launched in 2020 and scheduled for completion in 2026 is further enhancing the terminal’s capabilities, increasing yard capacity, expanding automation and introducing hybrid equipment to reduce emissions while maintaining uninterrupted operations.
