Anemoi Marine Technologies and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry have reinforced their collaboration through the renewal of a framework agreement focused on rotor sail installations. The updated agreement builds on a partnership first established in 2022 and reflects the growing demand for wind assisted propulsion solutions across the global shipping industry.
Since the start of their cooperation, Anemoi and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry have successfully completed the installation of nine rotor sails at subsidiary shipyards, including very large ore carrier projects for Vale and U Ming at the COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Zhoushan facility. These projects have allowed both companies to develop a deep understanding of integration requirements, installation processes, and cost structures, providing greater transparency and confidence for shipowners considering rotor sail technology.
Under the renewed agreement, Anemoi customers will have access to COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry technical installation services across its network of subsidiary shipyards in China. Support covers the full scope of work, from integration design through to onboard installation, enabling a streamlined and coordinated approach for both retrofit and newbuild projects.
The framework agreement supports a flexible service model, allowing customers to select installation locations and service levels that best suit their operational needs. By combining Anemoi’s proven wind propulsion technology with COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry extensive shipyard expertise, the collaboration offers a turnkey solution backed by substantial shared experience.
Nick Contopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer of Anemoi, said the renewed agreement delivers added value and clarity for owners seeking to adopt wind assisted propulsion, reinforcing the company’s commitment to accelerating decarbonisation across the maritime sector.
Jony Guo, Director of Repair and Conversion at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Commercial Headquarters, noted that the expanded partnership supports the increasing uptake of greener technologies and underlines the company’s ongoing commitment to more sustainable maritime operations.
