Renovation works at Spiš Castle, one of Central Europe’s most impressive fortresses, are being supported by the GEDA 500 Z/ZP transport platform. Located around four kilometres east of Spišské Podhradie, the UNESCO World Heritage Site rises 634 metres above sea level on a rocky ridge and covers more than four hectares, offering a spectacular but challenging setting for construction operations.

Since the end of the Second World War, the castle has undergone repeated restoration campaigns. Today’s works focus on securing and preserving the historic ruins, including structural reinforcement of the Romanesque palace and stabilisation of the rocky subsoil. With sensitive heritage structures and restricted access, reliable logistics play a key role in maintaining progress on site.

To ensure safe and efficient transport of materials and personnel, the project team selected the GEDA 500 Z/ZP. Designed for tough daily construction site use, the platform can be used both as a material hoist and for transporting people, supported by two separate control systems. It offers lifting speeds of 24 m/min in material mode and 12 m/min in personnel mode.

Thanks to its compact design, adaptable platform variants and high load capacity, the system suits demanding site conditions. The chosen C platform variant can transport heavy and bulky materials with a load capacity of up to 850 kg. For this renovation project, the unit operates with a 16-metre lifting height and three stops, supported by a floor safety system using GEDA Comfort floor safety doors.

Transporting the hoist to the remote construction site required an unusual solution. Due to difficult access routes, the platform was delivered by helicopter, organised by GEDA’s long-standing partner AP-Lift s.r.o.
