DP World has achieved a new milestone at London Gateway, with the port surpassing three million TEU in 2025, a record driven by the newly operational fourth berth and additional vessel calls from the Gemini Cooperation’s Asia-Europe services.
The achievement represents growth of more than 52%, up from 1.9 million TEU in 2024, as London Gateway remains on course to become Britain’s most important container port.
DP World also reported strong performance at its Southampton terminal, which exceeded two million TEU, bringing the company’s total UK container throughput to more than five million TEU in a national market of over nine million TEU.
Further expansion is underway at London Gateway, where DP World is investing £1 billion to develop two additional all-electric berths, increasing the terminal to six berths capable of handling the world’s largest container ships. A second rail terminal began operations in 2025, and construction is also planned for a BOXBAY container handling system, supported by a £170 million investment over the next two years.
Stephen Whittingham, Executive Vice President North Europe, said the record highlights how investment in capacity, technology and resilience is improving supply chain reliability and sustainability.
DP World Southampton will also receive the first of its new quay cranes later this year, part of a £60 million project to create the tallest quay crane fleet in Europe.
Headquartered in Dubai, DP World operates in more than 75 countries, supporting over 9% of global containerised trade.
