Festive cheer was lifted to new heights in Liverpool as Father Christmas was hoisted into the air to switch on the city’s Christmas lights, thanks to a collaborative effort between RSS and crane hire specialist PJS.
A 220kg capacity, one-person basket manufactured by Eichinger Equipment Ltd. was safely raised by a 40-tonne Terex crane from the PJS fleet, allowing Santa Claus to ascend 10 metres above the crowd gathered below. With mulled wine flowing and festive treats on offer at the Mersey View, spectators watched as Santa waved from above before illuminating the seasonal display.
Stephen Littler, regional manager at RSS, said the unusual lift was one of those special jobs that only comes around at certain times of the year. He highlighted the strong working relationship between RSS and PJS, noting that the basket provided a safe and practical solution for lifting a “very special passenger.”
The lifting basket, commonly used throughout the year for maintenance and access tasks, can be deployed below the hook of various crane types. For this event, PJS selected a Terex crane well suited to the location and the ceremonial task.
