Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. has signed an agreement to supply two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes to Port Tampa Bay, its first STS installation on Florida’s Gulf Coast and a major boost to the port’s Vision 2030 expansion strategy.

The advanced cranes will be manufactured at Liebherr’s facility in Killarney, Ireland. Designed to handle larger, wider-beam container vessels, each unit features a 60-metre outreach, 50-metre lift height, 20-metre back reach, and a 65-tonne twin-lift capacity. These capabilities will significantly increase berth productivity and reduce vessel turnaround times as Port Tampa Bay scales up operations.

Operational safety and performance are enhanced by a suite of smart technologies, including anti-collision and anti-sway systems, snag-load protection, and a curve-going gantry system for improved terminal manoeuvrability. Each crane includes Liebherr’s remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance tools, supporting maximum uptime and consistent high-performance operations.

The investment forms a key part of Port Tampa Bay’s container terminal expansion to 100 acres with a new deep-water berth, paved storage areas, and a rail-served transload facility. The upgrades support the port’s long-term goal of achieving 1 million TEUs in annual capacity and enhancing service for carriers and cargo owners across Central Florida and the Southeast.

Energy-efficient drives and regenerative systems will also help reduce emissions in line with the port’s sustainability objectives.

“We are proud to partner with Port Tampa Bay as it advances a major phase of its Vision 2030 expansion,” said Winston Ziegler, Head of Sales Maritime Cranes, Liebherr USA, Co.

Paul Anderson, President & CEO of Port Tampa Bay, added: “These STS cranes are a critical component of our growth strategy and will significantly strengthen our ability to serve Florida’s rapidly expanding market along the I-4 corridor.”

Liebherr USA will provide ongoing local service support to ensure optimal crane availability and long-term performance.
