Ports across the world are accelerating the shift toward electric handling solutions, driven by stricter environmental requirements and the need for cleaner, quieter and more cost-efficient operations. Responding to this demand, Sany has launched the STT4501E2-D, a fully electric terminal tractor engineered specifically for the European market and now available to customers.

The STT4501E2-D combines a robust heavy-duty chassis with impressive performance data. Designed to handle trailer loads of up to 75 tonnes, it operates with a maximum tractive force suited for continuous port logistics. Its 281.9 kWh battery provides a driving range of up to 120 kilometres or an operating time of up to 18 hours, depending on usage conditions. An intelligent thermal management system ensures the battery remains within the optimal temperature window even during high-duty cycles, while a dedicated braking system improves energy recuperation.

The entire electrical system is designed for durability and safety, meeting IP67 and higher protection standards. Leakage detection is incorporated and connected to Sany’s remote monitoring technology, helping operators maintain full transparency over performance and safety status at all times.

Economy remains a central advantage of the electric drive. Lower energy consumption and reduced maintenance requirements translate directly into significant operational savings, which are particularly noticeable in demanding port environments where machines operate for long shifts. According to Daniel Zhong, Sales Director at Sany Europe, the new model represents a key step in supporting operators transitioning toward more sustainable fleets. “The STT from SANY offers exactly the performance profile that many of our customers are looking for: high availability, reliable range and economical operation. The demand for electric solutions is growing noticeably – and with this model, we offer a mature alternative that has already proven itself in real-life port operations,” he commented.

Beyond its environmental and economic strengths, the STT4501E2-D also delivers practical operational benefits. It features a 4×2 drive configuration, a wheelbase of 3,400 mm and dimensions of 5,850 x 2,500 x 3,500 mm, ensuring manoeuvrability in confined spaces. Its peak power output reaches 280 kW, enabling a maximum driving speed of up to 40 km/h. The tractor’s unladen weight stands at 10,000 kg with a total permissible weight of 85,000 kg, and it offers an inner turning radius of just 6.6 metres—an advantage for tight terminal layouts.
