DHL Express has unveiled plans to construct an aircraft maintenance hangar at Bahrain International Airport, representing one of the company’s largest aviation infrastructure investments in the Middle East and North Africa. Valued at USD 85.1 million, the project marks DHL’s first dedicated maintenance hangar in the region.

Spanning a total built-up area of 33,850 m², the facility will feature a 9,800 m² hangar and 21,515 m² of supporting infrastructure, designed to handle line maintenance for DHL’s global Boeing 777 and 767 fleet. Construction is set to begin in October 2026, with operations scheduled to commence by August 2028.

The new hangar will centralise DHL’s MENA Aviation team — including management, maintenance, and operations — into a single, advanced hub. Reflecting DHL’s sustainability goals, the facility will integrate solar panels providing up to 40% of its energy needs and feature smart data systems for operational efficiency.

Abdulaziz Busbate, CEO of DHL Express MENA, said: “This investment strengthens our ability to manage DHL’s growing air operations across the region while reducing emissions and enhancing efficiency.”

Richard Gale, Vice President of Aviation at DHL Express MENA, added that the hangar will “expand maintenance capacity, optimise spare parts management, and improve fleet reliability.”
