Lhyfe and Elyse Energy have partnered to launch the Green Coast project, aiming to produce e-methanol from green hydrogen at the Nantes Saint-Nazaire port. This project will support the decarbonization of maritime transport, a key sector responsible for 14% of Europe’s CO2 emissions from transport. The Green Coast initiative is part of France’s broader efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote green reindustrialization.
France imports about 600,000 tonnes of fossil-based methanol each year, and this project seeks to provide a local, low-carbon alternative. Green Coast is expected to produce 150,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually, contributing to cleaner shipping and the region’s industrial vitality. The project also fits within the Loire Estuaire Decarbonation initiative, a collective effort targeting carbon neutrality by 2050.
Located in the Montoir-de-Bretagne industrial hub, Green Coast is currently in development and will proceed pending necessary permits and financial decisions, with conclusions from feasibility studies expected in 2025.
