Maersk Celebrates Arrival of Green Methanol-Powered Vessel at Jebel Ali Port

A.P. Moller – Maersk marks a significant milestone with the arrival of its pioneering vessel, Ane Maersk, powered by green methanol, at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, UAE. Welcomed by DP World, the vessel underscores Maersk’s commitment to achieving Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

Ane Maersk, serving the AE7 string connecting Asia and Europe, arrived in the UAE after a journey originating in Hamburg, Germany, and traversing ports in Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Gulf countries. Following cargo operations in Dubai, it will proceed to ports in China and Asia.

This landmark event signals Maersk’s dedication to decarbonizing ocean transportation, emphasizing sustainability and innovation. Managing Director of Maersk UAE, Oman, and Qatar, Christopher Cook, highlights the collaborative effort needed from stakeholders for a successful green transition.

DP World’s CEO, Abdulla Bin Damithan, hails Ane Maersk’s arrival as emblematic of the industry’s green shift. DP World is committed to decarbonizing global trade through initiatives such as electrifying terminals and employing smart technology.

With its cutting-edge dual-fuel engine, Ane Maersk is the first of 18 large vessels ordered by Maersk, scheduled for addition to the fleet by 2025. These vessels boast innovative design features, including placing the bridge and accommodation at the vessel’s forefront, enhancing cargo capacity and reducing consumption per container.

During its inaugural call at Jebel Ali, top officials and partners, including the Danish Consul-General and DP World executives, toured Ane Maersk, gaining insights into its modern engine and innovative design.
