Unifeeder Group has secured a long-term time-charter for two methanol-capable container feeder vessels, with an option for two more. These 1250 TEU vessels, to be built and managed by Germany’s Elbdeich Reederei, are set to join the fleet in 2026.
The vessels will play a vital role in reducing emissions across Unifeeder Group’s European network. The company, in collaboration with DP World and industry partners, is actively working on renewable methanol supply solutions to accelerate the transition away from conventional fossil fuels.
Simultaneously, Unifeeder plans to enhance fuel efficiency in its entire fleet and increase the use of biofuels in conventional vessels. Jesper Kristensen, Group CEO of Unifeeder Group, emphasized the importance of these initiatives for sustainability and customer solutions.
Unifeeder Group’s ambitious decarbonization plan aims for a 25% emissions reduction by 2030, carbon neutrality by 2040, and net-zero emissions by 2050. The company focuses on fuel-efficient practices, fleet maintenance, and fostering a culture of collaboration to achieve these goals.
Robert Frese, Managing Director at Elbdeich Reederei, expressed enthusiasm for methanol-capable vessels as a means to reduce carbon emissions in the shipping sector. This partnership contributes to a greener future in shipping and aligns with ongoing efforts to reduce emissions within the Unifeeder fleet.
