A new CSOV Plus under construction for Marco Polo Marine will be equipped with more than 1 MWh of EST-Floattech Octopus High Energy battery capacity, following an order placed by Siemens Energy.
The system will support hybrid propulsion and dynamic positioning operations alongside Siemens Energy’s BlueDrive PlusC platform.
Designed by Salt Ship Design, the CSOV Plus is being developed for work across both offshore wind and oil and gas projects.
The vessel will feature a 100-tonne active heave compensated crane and a motion-compensated gangway for walk-to-work transfers in significant wave heights of up to 3 metres.
During DP operations, the battery system will provide spinning reserve and absorb load fluctuations, allowing fewer generators to remain online and enabling those in operation to run closer to their optimum load.
The vessel is also being prepared for future battery expansion. Space and system architecture are reserved to increase capacity to as much as 20 MWh, potentially enabling fully electric sailing at a later stage.
Construction began in the second quarter of 2026, with delivery scheduled for Q2 2028.
Once completed, the CSOV Plus will be operated by PKR Offshore, Marco Polo Marine’s Taiwan-based subsidiary, and deployed for Siemens Gamesa under a multi-year framework agreement supporting offshore wind projects in Taiwanese waters.
The project marks EST-Floattech’s first installation in Singapore and Taiwan and expands the company’s presence in the Asia-Pacific offshore sector.
