Kranverleih Kunze has expanded its fleet with a new LTM 1055-3.3, becoming the first company in Germany to receive the model with a dedicated ballast trailer configuration.

The new setup allows the Saxony based operator to transport the crane’s full 11 tonne ballast on German roads without requiring additional individual permits, offering greater operational flexibility for nationwide projects.

The crane replaces the previous LTM 1055-3.1 and joins an all Liebherr fleet that already includes the LTC 1050-3.1, LTM 1120-4.1 and MK series cranes. According to Managing Director Dirk Kunze, the new crane is intended for industrial construction, concrete and steel work, as well as energy infrastructure projects.

The lightweight 3 axle crane has been designed for improved mobility, with configurations allowing axle loads below nine tonnes and a gross vehicle weight of less than 26 tonnes. Combined with the ballast trailer solution developed by Liebherrand a local partner, the crane can travel across Germany under a general permanent licence valid for three years.

Kunze said the configuration reduces administrative costs and eliminates delays linked to special transport approvals. Once on site, the crane can lift the ballast directly from the trailer and quickly enter operation.

The crane completed its first assignment in Dresden earlier this year, handling prefabricated slabs for a materials research institute before moving to a nearby waste to energy plant project.

The partnership between Liebherr and Kranverleih Kunze dates back to 2005. Today, the company operates five mobile cranes alongside transport equipment and logistics services across Germany.
