In Lorup, Lower Saxony, Enercon is upgrading its wind farm with the help of Scheuerle’s advanced transport technology. Sixteen older turbines are being replaced by ten modern E-175 EP5 units, each equipped with rotor blades nearly 86 metres long — among the longest onshore blades in the world.

The first blades have already completed their demanding journey. Starting at Jade-Weser port in Wilhelmshaven, the 99.5-metre-long heavy-load combinations travelled about 160 kilometres to Lorup over two nights — a logistical masterpiece despite the relatively short distance.

To handle this challenge, Enercon Logistic invested in three Scheuerle Rotor Blade Transport Systems (RBTS). Featuring lateral blade displacement, a double lifting cylinder, and gyrostatic transport platform, the RBTS offers flexibility and protects these highly sensitive components.

“With the RBTS, we have a reliable and well-thought-out solution that gives our drivers flexibility while protecting the sensitive rotor blades,” said Tino Hülsmeyer, Truck Fleet Manager at Enercon  Logistic.

The route itself posed numerous hurdles. Exiting the motorway required extreme lifting angles to clear barriers, showcasing the RBTS’s superior capabilities. In Friesoythe, a roundabout had to be dismantled and steel-plated, while underpasses demanded precise coordination between vehicle modules.

The final leg involved reversing 800 metres down a narrow farm track into the wind park — with a massive rotor blade barely visible behind. This was mastered through expert teamwork between driver and rear steering, controlled via radio.
