The river Lech winds peacefully through Landsberg, its calm waters briefly disrupted by the hum of a nearby weir. Set against this serene backdrop is a hydroelectric power station, now host to an impressive debut in heavy transport: the first mission of the CombiMAX PA-X semi-trailer from Wiedemann Transporte.
Driver Luca Weber surveys the construction site. “There are still a few vehicles in the way, we’ll need to move those first,” he says. With the area cleared, the 2+6 axle semi low loader makes its move. Despite rain-soaked terrain and limited space, the trailer reverses and positions itself with ease, thanks to a 60-degree steering angle. Nearby, a 73-ton drilling rig awaits pickup. With quiet precision, the machine rolls up the narrow double ramps under Luca’s direction and is securely chained down.

Exiting the narrow gates of the plant, the rig passes the gentle flow of the Lech before stopping near a residential area to await nightfall. “That went really well,” Luca notes, before handing the wheel to colleague Manuel Hoim. The rig, now measuring 4.45 meters high, begins its 95-kilometer journey to Schrobenhausen, where customer Yurekli awaits. The CombiMAX PA-X, with its telescopic loading platform stretching up to 15.4 meters and a 12-ton axle load capacity, proves its worth—delivering more payload than its predecessor in a more compact design. One standout feature: a lowered loading height of just 790 millimeters.

As Luca guides the route from the escort vehicle, the team maneuvers through tight turns and underpasses, drawing curious glances from bystanders. By night’s end, the rig is delivered and unloaded. “Everything went according to plan,” say Manuel and Luca. Ramps up, chains packed—the next challenge awaits.
