Continental’s tyre plant in Korbach has received the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS, marking a significant step in the company’s journey toward sustainable tyre production. The globally recognised certification confirms compliance with strict documentation standards and ensures full traceability of raw materials sourced from renewable and recycled origins.

By adopting the mass balance approach, Continental integrates fossil, renewable, and recycled materials into its existing production processes while tracking and allocating them accurately throughout the value chain. “We want to make our sustainability activities transparent, as we aim to increase the proportion of renewable and recycled materials in our material handling tyres,” said Klaus Framenau, Head of Continental’s Material Handling Tire business.

Continental has set ambitious sustainability goals, aiming to use over 40% renewable and recycled materials in its tyres by 2030 and achieving 100% sustainable materials by 2050. The company is focusing on innovative raw materials, including agricultural waste-derived components, sustainable carbon black, and recycled steel.

Korbach’s facility produces high-performance material handling tyres for intralogistics applications, such as forklifts, airport vehicles, and heavy-duty transport. With advanced rubber compounds, these tyres offer enhanced energy efficiency, durability, and load capacity.
