ICO Terminals has announced the purchase of a second Liebherr LHM 550 mobile harbour crane for its Antwerp terminal, boosting its container and project cargo handling capacity. The new crane, set to leave the factory in eight months, follows ICO’s successful history with Liebherr, supported by their strong partnership and the nearby Liebherr Belgium office. The choice of this model was driven by its advanced lifting capacity, meeting the increasing demands of cargo weights exceeding 100 tonnes.
At Antwerp XL, a signing ceremony will mark the sale, celebrating the close relationship between ICO and Liebherr. “The addition of the second LHM 550 to our Antwerp terminal reflects our commitment to innovation and flexibility,” said Alain Guillemyn, ICO Terminals’ Managing Director. “This investment strengthens our position in providing efficient and reliable solutions for diverse cargo projects.”
Since investing in its first LHM 550 in 2021 for the Zeebrugge terminal, ICO has seen significant growth in handling project cargo. The first crane handled 22,000 tonnes in its second year, with more growth expected in 2024. The second LHM 550 will further enhance ICO’s operational efficiency, allowing faster loading and unloading processes, essential for maintaining its competitive edge.
ICO’s focus on sustainability is evident through the energy-efficient e-drive systems installed in both cranes, reducing emissions during operations. As ICO continues to invest in modern equipment, it reinforces its leadership in sustainable and future-ready logistics.
