Eiffage, via its subsidiary Eiffage Rail, and Captrain have clinched a consortium deal with SNCF Réseau for track renovation projects worth nearly €415 million. This includes Eiffage’s share of 80% in the contracts, which could potentially soar to over €790 million with extendible annual tranches.
The first contract focuses on replacing track equipment for high-speed lines in Atlantique, Nord, and Sud-Est regions, spanning four years with an option for two more. Over weekends between 2025 and 2028, 49 track equipment will be replaced, necessitating significant manpower and equipment commitment.
The second contract involves renovating conventional tracks nationwide, employing industrial methods. This spans three years initially, with an option for three more. Between 2025 and 2027, 524 kilometers of track will be revamped, mainly during night shifts utilizing advanced machinery capable of renovating 1,000 meters of track per shift.
Innovations aimed at recycling and reducing carbon footprint will be integrated into the second contract, including onsite reuse of rail and sleeper panels. Additionally, starting from 2027, hydrogen production and storage equipment will enable locomotives to operate in a hybrid electric/hydrogen mode.
These contracts solidify Eiffage Rail and Captrain’s pivotal roles in France’s industrial rail sector as SNCF Réseau intensifies efforts in renovating the national rail network.
