In a significant development, Stéphane Raison, the Chief Executive Officer of Haropa Port, has taken on the role of Vice-President for Europe within the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH). This appointment not only reflects Raison’s leadership but also represents the first time a French citizen has held this prominent position. It further underscores the determination of Haropa Port and France to play a leading role in the ever-evolving and dynamic port sector.

IAPH, established as a non-governmental organization in November 1955, has grown into a formidable global alliance of ports. Presently, it represents a network of 177 ports and 147 port-related businesses across 84 countries. Together, these member ports handle well over 60% of the world’s sea-borne trade and more than 60% of global container traffic. As a renowned trade association, IAPH aspires to serve as the industry benchmark for sharing best practices among the most advanced ports worldwide.

Raison’s appointment as Vice-President for Europe was officially confirmed during the Annual General Meeting of IAPH held in Abu Dhabi. The vote, conducted by Regular Members and Honorary Members of the organization, solidified his position as a key figure in shaping the future of European port development and cooperation.

In light of the universal challenges that ports face today, particularly those related to climate change and energy transition, Stéphane Raison, as VP Europe, is poised to foster the exchange of best practices across different IAPH regions. This endeavor will notably focus on two crucial committees: Climate & Energy and Risk & Resilience. The goal is to facilitate the sharing of proven technologies and processes that effectively combat global warming, reduce CO2 emissions, and enhance safety and security throughout the global port community. Raison’s appointment is a testament to his dedication to advancing the port industry in Europe and worldwide.
