The 2nd Annual Houston International Maritime Conference (HIMC), organized by Port Houston, brought together over 500 maritime professionals for a three-day event, focusing on the future of shipping. Experts emphasized the importance of collaboration, innovation, and investment. HIMC featured expert panels and keynote speeches that tackled industry challenges and opportunities, highlighting themes like collaboration, technology adoption, infrastructure investment, and workforce development.
Port Houston, now the fifth-largest container port in the U.S., was a fitting host, with discussions covering vital topics such as the economy, Houston Ship Channel Expansion (Project 11), technology, sustainability, and the logistics workforce. Keynote speakers included Carson Landsgard of H-E-B and Commissioner Carl Bentzel. Dr. Ricaurte Vasquez Morales provided an update on the Panama Canal.
The event also honored the International Longshoremen’s Association-South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District (ILA-SAGCD) with Port Houston’s Lone Star Award for partnership excellence. HIMC aimed to foster collaboration and innovative thinking for the industry’s growth and transformation.
