HMM has placed an order for eight 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships with HD Hyundai, representing an investment of approximately €1.35 billion (KRW 2 trillion).

The vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Samho, with deliveries scheduled to begin progressively from 2029.

HMM plans to deploy the new ships on its flagship FIM service linking the Far East, India and the Mediterranean, strengthening capacity and operational efficiency across one of its core trade routes.

All eight newbuilds will feature LNG dual-fuel propulsion, forming part of HMM’s wider fleet renewal and investment strategy.

Alongside the containership order, the South Korean carrier has acquired four feeder vessels through resale agreements. The additional fleet comprises three 2,800 TEU vessels and one 1,700 TEU ship.

These smaller vessels will be integrated into regional feeder networks connected to major hub ports as HMM develops its Hub & Spoke operating model.

With the latest acquisitions, HMM says its total investment during 2026 across fleet expansion, logistics infrastructure and future technologies has reached approximately €4.05 billion (KRW 6 trillion).

The company intends to continue investing in fleet modernisation and network development as part of its strategy to strengthen operational performance and long-term competitiveness.
