Dutch chartering company Transito has launched Total Freight, a new service combining sea freight and inland shipping under a single contract.
The service covers the full movement from overseas load port to the final quay in the European hinterland, including sea transport, port handling, transhipment and onward carriage by inland vessel.
Customers receive one price per tonne, one contract and one invoice for the complete movement. Within an agreed range, Transito also assumes responsibility for waiting time between the seagoing and inland vessels.
The service is designed to simplify shipments that can otherwise involve multiple contracts and parties, particularly when low water, port congestion, vessel delays or documentation issues disrupt connections between maritime and inland transport.
“A seagoing vessel waits for an inland vessel, an inland vessel waits at the quay, and the terminal waits for paperwork. Those days end up with the cargo owner,” said Bas Weinberg, Management and Business Development at Transito.
“We arrange both vessels ourselves, so if one runs late, we move the other with it.”
Total Freight is aimed particularly at industrial buyers and mid-sized traders moving cargoes such as agribulk, building materials, fertilisers, minerals, recycling materials and project cargo.
The service is available for both import and export movements, linking European hinterland destinations with markets including Scandinavia, the UK, Poland and northern Spain.
By coordinating both sea and inland legs, Transito said it can respond more quickly to schedule changes and reduce the operational risk traditionally carried by cargo owners.
