Hanchang Heavy Equipment has taken delivery of a Liebherr LR 12500-1.0 crawler crane in South Korea, adding 2,500 tonnes of lifting capacity to its fleet for major offshore wind, energy and industrial projects.
The new crane has already entered operation at an offshore wind farm construction site operated by SK Ocean Plant, where it is being used to assemble jacket substructures for offshore wind turbines. Working alongside a Liebherr LR 11350-P1800, the LR 12500-1.0 lifts and positions large steel structures using a 126-metre main boom, derrick system and floating counterweight.
Positioned between Liebherr’s LR 11350 and LR 13000 crawler cranes, the LR 12500-1.0 was developed for demanding projects in the energy, petrochemical and heavy industrial sectors. Its HighPerformanceBoom features a particularly wide lattice structure designed to deliver high lifting capacities, while various boom configurations allow the crane to be adapted to different applications.
The maximum main boom length reaches 162 metres. In a configuration combining a 100-metre main boom with a 108-metre luffing jib, the crane can achieve working heights of around 200 metres. A vessel-lifter configuration also allows it to handle large process components for petrochemical projects.
Transport efficiency was another consideration in the crane’s design. Ten-metre HighPerformanceBoom sections can be reduced in size for transport, while most components remain within a maximum transport width of 3.5 metres. The 25-tonne ballast plates are dimensioned similarly to 20-foot containers to simplify logistics.
Power comes from two Liebherr six-cylinder engines delivering a combined 800 kW, with a redundant configuration designed to increase crane availability.
