deugro, in cooperation with dteq Transport Engineering Solutions, has completed the transport of oversized equipment from Oman to Belgium for INEOS’ Terminal Expansion Project.
Working on behalf of Worley, deugro teams in Belgium, the Netherlands and Oman handled more than 7,300 cubic metres of cargo weighing over 1,440 tonnes. The shipment included nine large skids, ethylene vessels, refrigerant chillers and compressor units, each measuring up to 14 metres in length and weighing over 200 tonnes.
The operation began in Sohar, Oman, where the cargo was transported using SPMTs and hydraulic trailers. Due to restricted positioning at the supplier’s yard, several units required double handling before final loading. The components were then moved 18.5 kilometres to Sohar Port under strict conditions, including night transport and police escort.
After staging and preparation, the cargo was loaded onto a vessel for a 38-day voyage to Antwerp. Special engineering solutions, including custom spacer rings, were implemented to ensure safe lifting operations and compliance with strict standards.
At the Port of Antwerp, discharge operations involved double-banking lifts onto pontoons, followed by transfer to a secondary quay using a floating crane due to limited ground-bearing capacity. The cargo was then placed onto SPMTs for final delivery.
“Meticulous planning and close coordination between all partners made this project a success,” said Joost Maranus, Project Manager at deugro Antwerp.
