The Miri Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant in Sarawak, Malaysia, is set to deliver 500MW of stable electricity when it becomes operational in 2027, strengthening the region’s energy security. Developed by PETROS Power, a subsidiary of Sarawak’s state oil and gas company, the plant will act as a reliable base-load facility, complementing renewable energy sources and ensuring continuous power supply for households and industry.

Sarens is supporting the project on behalf of its client Intercargo Machinery, providing heavy lifting expertise during critical piling operations. As part of its scope, Sarens handled a 12-ton vibratory hammer used for pile installation and extraction. Following a detailed site survey, the engineering team selected the SCC2000 and QUY70 crawler cranes, chosen for their stability, lifting capacity, and suitability for soft ground conditions when operating on mats.

The equipment was transported from the Sarens Malaysia yard in just two days, with crane assembly completed within one and a half days despite limited space and challenging ground conditions. Lifting operations were executed with controlled movements to maintain alignment and safety, involving a dedicated team of operators, assemblers, and supervisors.

Despite frequent rain and restricted operating areas near ongoing site activities, the works were completed within the agreed timeline. Once operational, the plant will achieve efficiencies of over 60% by reusing waste heat, generating more power with less gas and significantly reducing CO₂ emissions compared to coal or diesel plants.
