Luka Koper has ordered four additional Konecranes electric Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes for its container terminal at Slovenia’s Port of Koper. The order, booked in Q3 2025, follows a similar purchase in 2024, with delivery scheduled for Q2 2026.

As Slovenia’s only cargo seaport and a key Adriatic gateway to Central and Eastern Europe, Luka Koper continues to upgrade its terminal infrastructure with a strong focus on reducing emissions and increasing operational efficiency.

The new electric Konecranes RTGs will replace several older diesel-powered units currently in the yard. Powered by cable reel systems connected to the local grid and supported by onboard battery packs for stack changing, the cranes will also feature Konecranes’ Truck Lift Prevention for improved safety during container handling.

This latest order builds on a relationship that has grown over many years, based on proven results and shared eco-efficiency goals. The new Konecranes RTGs support our modernization program by combining reliable performance with lower emissions,” said Edvin Boskin, Container Terminal Technical Manager at Luka Koper.

The company already operates an extensive Konecranes fleet, including 32 RTGs and four Rail-Mounted Gantry cranes, one of which has been retrofitted with a Remote Operating Station.

By ordering the same type of electric Konecranes RTGs as last year, Luka Koper can scale its modernization program even faster. This repeat order shows how ports can enhance daily operations and reach eco-efficiency targets,” said Philipp Reiter, Regional Sales Manager, Konecranes Port Solutions.

This contract forms part of Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, which focuses on increasing positive environmental impact through optimized, hybrid, and fully electric lifting solutions.
