Liebherr has dispatched four additional mobile harbour cranes to Italy, reinforcing its role in the country’s evolving port infrastructure and its shift towards cleaner, more efficient operations.
The shipment includes two LHM 550 units for Bari’s bulk terminal, each offering a 154-tonne lifting capacity and 54-metre outreach. Both feature electric drive (e-drive) technology, enabling locally emission-free handling when connected to shore power. They will support grain discharge critical to regional pasta production, expanding the terminal’s existing fleet of LHM 550s.

In Naples, La Nuova Meccanica Navale will replace an ageing LHM 1300 with an LHM 420, rated at 124 tonnes with a 48-metre outreach. Optimised for confined quay spaces, the crane will be used for heavy-duty shipyard work, from removing hatch covers to lifting oversized machinery, where reliability and manoeuvrability are essential.
A second LHM 420 will be delivered to Interporto Rivers Venezia at Porto Marghera. Configured with electric drive, it will support bulk and scrap handling at the multipurpose terminal. This addition strengthens a fleet already comprising four Liebherr cranes, aligning with the operator’s strategy to modernise handling capacity while reducing emissions.
“From precision lifting in shipyards to high-volume bulk discharge, Italian ports demand diverse solutions,” said Andreas Ritschel, General Manager Sales Mobile Harbour Cranes at Liebherr-Rostock GmbH. “By combining electric drive options with proven reliability, we are helping operators meet performance targets while cutting local emissions.”
