Konecranes has received its second portal jib crane order from the US Navy, part of an agreement first announced in December 2019. The $43.5 million order, placed in May 2021, will deliver the crane to the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. The Navy has options for five more cranes over the next five years, potentially raising the contract’s total value to $330 million.
The new jib crane mirrors the design of the first order. It features a custom configuration that works on various rail sections, straight or curved, at the naval base. The design, tailored to the historical layouts of US Navy shipyards, is adaptable for use in other naval facilities worldwide with similar infrastructure.
“The additional order is a confirmation of the Navy’s ongoing commitment to upgrade its facilities and its confidence in Konecranes to meet their current and future needs with unique products tailored to meet the Navy’s rigorous requirements,” said Steven Waisanen, Vice President in Industrial Equipment at Konecranes.
Established in 1908 on Oahu, Hawaii, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard handles long-term repair, maintenance, and modernization for the US Pacific Fleet. The facility includes three drydocks and adjoining piers.
