Tadano Ltd., a global leader in the lifting industry, has announced its acquisition of the transportation system business from IHI Transport Machinery Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of IHI Corporation based in Tokyo. This strategic move is aimed at diversifying Tadano’s lifting solutions portfolio and enhancing value for customers, furthering the goals of its Mid-Term Management Plan to expand offerings across multiple lifting segments.
The acquisition adds to Tadano’s extensive range of lifting solutions, marking a significant milestone in its growth strategy. IHI Transport Machinery brings over 50 years of engineering expertise in Jib Climbing Cranes, Port and Large Offshore Cranes, Wind Power Cranes, and Bulk Handling Systems—products that complement Tadano’s existing portfolio and open new avenues for innovation.
“We are excited to further our Mid-Term Management Plan with this acquisition,” said Toshiaki Ujiie, President and CEO of Tadano Ltd. “With over a century of experience in the global lifting market, Tadano is well-positioned to integrate these new crane solutions, including Tower and Port Cranes, into our product range. This will allow us to develop deeper relationships with our customers and enhance our ability to meet their diverse lifting needs.” Ujiie also noted the synergies between IHI’s Ring Lift Cranes and Tadano’s German-made Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes, particularly for offshore wind power applications.
Through this acquisition, Tadano will oversee planning, development, design, manufacturing, sales, installation, and maintenance of the newly acquired crane lines. The integration is expected to strengthen Tadano’s capabilities across key sectors such as construction, ports, offshore operations, wind power, and bulk handling.
“This acquisition reflects Tadano’s strong commitment to customer satisfaction and industry leadership,” Ujiie added. “By combining IHI’s transportation systems with Tadano’s resources, we aim to deliver enhanced value and consolidate our standing in the global crane industry.”
