Allelys Executes Precise Installation for Grand Surrey Canal Project

Rate this post

Allelys played a crucial role in the Grand Surrey Canal project by transporting and installing 15 precast concrete arch sections. Each section, weighing 17.5 tons and up to 11.4 meters long, was handled with Allelys’ specialized equipment. The challenge was to install the units under a historic railway bridge, requiring precise engineering solutions.

A 160-ton mobile telescopic crane loaded each arch onto a 6-axle self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) for exact positioning. Custom timber packers were created to ensure stability during transport.

Collaboration and innovative problem-solving were key to executing this project safely and precisely,” said Neil Jones, Senior Commercial Manager at Allelys. The project will now move to the next phase, involving the removal of the main bridge beam and construction of a new bridge deck.
