Three major players in the energy and maritime industries – Eni, Fincantieri, and RINA – have recently inked a partnership agreement aimed at spearheading initiatives for the energy transition. The primary goal of this collaboration is to work towards decarbonizing the maritime sector, aligning with the partners’ strategies and targeting Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The agreement entails a commitment to developing joint projects focused on sustainable alternatives and complementary solutions to existing fuels. Additionally, the partners will explore the establishment of a global observatory to monitor technological, regulatory, and market developments crucial for the industry’s future.

Giuseppe Ricci, Eni’s Chief Operating Officer for Energy Evolution, emphasized the significance of long-term perspectives in achieving sustainability goals. He highlighted the importance of partnerships in creating effective and sustainable solutions.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, underscored the initiative’s aim to harness Italy’s expertise in new technologies and fuels. He stressed the need for industrializing innovations onboard ships and producing fuels efficiently.

Carlo Luzzatto, CEO of RINA, emphasized the value of collaboration in driving sustainable solutions for the shipping supply chain. RINA’s contribution lies in its engineering and technological skills, essential for reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.

The partnership’s understanding may lead to subsequent binding agreements, subject to compliance with relevant legislation. This alliance represents a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable maritime industry.
