Sarens is contributing to the construction of the DayOne Kapar data centre in Malaysia, providing heavy lifting services for one of the country’s largest digital infrastructure developments.

Working for China Construction Yangtze River (CCYR), Sarens is deploying a 450 tonne XCMG XLC 450 crawler crane to lift, transport and position the precast concrete elements that will form the base structure and building envelope of Block A. The lifting operations are scheduled to continue through August.

Located on a 157 acre site in Kapar, the project is expected to create more than 5,000 jobs across the local supply chain and over 1,200 highly skilled positions, while supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become Southeast Asia’s leading AI hub. The development forms part of the Malaysia Digital 2030 strategy, which aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to 30% of the country’s GDP by the end of the decade.

For the project, Sarens configured its XCMG XLC 450 with a 30 metre main boom and a 48 metre luffing jib, providing the lifting capacity, reach and stability required for the installation of the large precast concrete components.

Yi Heng Ching, Key Account Manager at Sarens, said, “Malaysia is in a momentous phase of its history, with a very significant investment for the country’s technological development. We are proud to participate in projects like the DayOne Kapar Project and contribute our experience to ensure that all lifting and installation tasks are carried out with the highest safety guarantees while strictly meeting the established deadlines.”

Scheduled to become operational in 2027, the DayOne Kapar project is expected to strengthen Malaysia’s growing data centre sector and support the country’s expanding digital economy.
