Awake.AI and Tidalis have announced a strategic partnership aimed at improving emissions monitoring and automated reporting for ports and shipping companies as global maritime decarbonisation regulations continue to tighten.
The collaboration will combine Awake.AI’s emissions monitoring platform with Tidalis’ vessel traffic services and port management systems already used by ports, coastguards and maritime authorities worldwide. The integrated solution is designed to help ports, terminals and vessel operators meet increasing reporting requirements linked to FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS and IMO decarbonisation targets.
Under the agreement, operational data including port calls, vessel movements, cargo handling, fuelling activities, shore power usage and gate operations will be transformed into automated Scope 1 to Scope 3 emissions reporting. The companies say the system will improve transparency while reducing the need for manual reporting processes across maritime operations.
Karno Tenovuo, CEO of Awake.AI, said reliable emissions measurement is essential for effective decarbonisation and regulatory compliance. He added that the first deployments are already being introduced at European ports this year to support Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive requirements.
Tidalis CEO Geert Jan den Besten said ports are increasingly seeking practical technologies that can improve emissions transparency without disrupting vessel traffic operations. He described the partnership as a natural extension of Tidalis’ global maritime network and operational expertise.
The rollout will initially focus on European ports and maritime authorities before expanding into Asia Pacific, the Middle East and the Americas during 2026 and 2027.
Shipping currently accounts for around 3 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, while more than 80 percent of world trade is transported by sea, increasing pressure on the industry to improve emissions visibility and compliance reporting.
