A.P. Moller – Maersk has taken delivery of Tangier Mærsk, the first in a new series of six mid-size container vessels, marking another step in the company’s fleet renewal program. The handover took place at the yard of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group in Jingjiang, China.
Each vessel in the series has a capacity of 9,000 TEU and is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on methanol, supporting Maersk’s strategy to enhance long-term competitiveness while advancing lower-emission operations. Anda Cristescu, Head of Chartering and Newbuilding at Maersk, said the newbuildings will play a key role in modernizing the fleet.
Tangier Mærsk will begin its maiden voyage with a call in Shanghai before entering service on the TP15 route. This service links East Asia with the U.S. Gulf Coast via the Panama Canal, strengthening Maersk’s transpacific network.
The vessel was delivered three months ahead of schedule, highlighting strong execution at the shipyard. Four additional ships from the series are scheduled for delivery later this year, with the final vessel expected in early 2027. Once complete, the six-ship program will further expand Maersk’s portfolio of modern, fuel-flexible tonnage designed to meet evolving market and regulatory demands.
