Maersk Offshore Wind and its vessel partners have announced the successful completion of sea trials for the Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) in the South China Sea, marking a major milestone in the vessel’s build programme ahead of delivery.

The sea trials were carried out in the presence of key stakeholders, including Maersk Offshore Wind and the classification society, confirming that the vessel meets its technical and operational requirements. The achievement highlights the close cooperation between the parties involved and supports the planned delivery schedule, with handover targeted for 28 February 2026.

The Maersk Wind Installation Vessel (WIV) is due for delivery in Q1 2026 and will be deployed with an innovative feeder concept designed to improve offshore installation efficiency. The system enables feeder vessels to dock alongside the WIV in sea states of up to 2.5m significant wave height (Hs).

Once docked, a locking mechanism stabilises the feeder vessel by pushing it down into the water, securing it firmly in position. The cargo frame is then elevated onto the WIV deck to transfer turbine components. After load out, the locking system retracts to release the feeder vessel.

With the tower, nacelle and blades assembled by crane, the Maersk WIV can remain permanently stationed at the wind farm, enabling uninterrupted wind turbine installation operations.
