deugro Milan has successfully delivered 58 kilometers (3,550 metric tons) of Prysmian HVAC subsea cable from Prysmian’s Pikkala factory in Finland to Heraklion, Crete, as part of the Cyclades IV Interconnector Project. The project will connect the Southern and Western Cyclades to Greece’s mainland grid.
To meet the demanding schedule, deugro designed an end-to-end transport solution, managing cable pick-up, ocean transport, and final delivery. The scope included a 23-meter-diameter carousel spread, engineering services, spooling operations, and full operational support. The heavy-lift deck carrier Vestvind was secured to transport the cargo.

Technical preparations at the Ports of Rotterdam and Vlissingen involved installing the carousel, a loading tower, deck tensioner, and auxiliary equipment. Following successful installation, the vessel collected the cables in Finland, where spooling was completed under close supervision. Despite challenging weather conditions and offshore anchorage, the operation was executed safely.
In Heraklion, the cables were unspooled to the cable-laying vessel within seven days, keeping the project on track. After completion, the Vestvind returned to Rotterdam for demobilization.

“This project highlights our expertise in managing complex offshore cable logistics and our commitment to supporting the success of renewable energy projects,” said Kasper Heiselberg, Head of Global Wind Renewable Energy at deugro.
Nils Sauerborn, Vertical Manager, added: “The operation was completed on time, in full alignment with the demanding project schedule, ensuring uninterrupted cable-laying operations.”
