Multisec, in collaboration with Durham Lifting, has completed the design and manufacture of one of the largest C-Hooks ever produced, created for SeAH Wind’s offshore wind monopile production.
The bespoke hook boasts a lifting capacity of 125 tonnes and can handle monopile sections up to 4.2 metres long and 15.5 metres in diameter. This makes it one of the most advanced heavy-lifting tools in the sector, providing SeAH Wind with a safe and efficient solution for handling monopile cans and cones.
Unlike traditional C-Hooks, which allow only single-direction tilt adjustment, Multisec’s design introduces a dual gantry crane system with integrated motorised counterweights. These can travel to either side of the lifting point, enabling precise clockwise and counterclockwise rotation to safely manage sections of varying dimensions and centres of gravity. To ensure strength and durability, the load path has been engineered so that primary forces are not transferred through welds, enhancing performance in demanding applications.
The project highlights Teesside’s role as a hub for renewable energy engineering. Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke recently visited Durham Lifting and Multisec’s facility to see the hook firsthand, underlining the region’s contribution to the global offshore wind supply chain.
As offshore wind projects continue to expand, Multisec’s innovation demonstrates its commitment to supporting the energy transition with robust, adaptable lifting solutions designed to meet the technical challenges of modern infrastructure.
