Mammoet has secured a major contract with Heerema Marine Contractors to support offshore installation activities for TenneT’s ambitious 2GW program. Under the agreement, Mammoet will assist with the preparation and floatover installation of two massive topsides.
The topsides will first be skidded from a heavy transport vessel onto Heerema’s newly built H-731 barge using Mammoet’s hydraulic skid shoes. Once in position, Mammoet’s proprietary Mega Jack System will elevate the topsides to the required floatover height. A specialized Deck Support Frame will then be positioned beneath to allow final installation onto jacket foundations.
TenneT’s 2GW program is a landmark initiative aimed at installing 14 high-voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore grid connection systems in the North Sea by 2032 — six serving Germany and eight the Netherlands. These HVDC systems will collect wind power at sea, convert it from AC to DC, and transmit it to shore with higher efficiency and reduced cable requirements.
Richard Verhoeff, Sales Director at Mammoet, commented, “With this contract, we play a key role in Northern Europe’s energy future, demonstrating our expertise in high-precision skidding and jacking. We’re excited to work closely with Heerema and support the energy transition.”
Martijn Wijdeveld, Director of Supply Chain Management and Procurement at Heerema, added, “Mammoet is a global leader in offshore wind heavy lifting and transport. Their proven capabilities and engineering expertise make them the ideal partner for large-scale projects like this.”
