Swiss marine power company WinGD has secured an order for two of its newly launched X-S short-stroke engines, set to power a pair of 2,800 TEU container vessels being built for X-Press Feeders at HD Hyundai Mipo.

Each vessel will be equipped with a six-cylinder, 62-bore X-S series engine—part of WinGD’s next-generation medium-bore lineup designed to deliver compact, fuel-efficient performance for ships with limited space or smaller propellers. The X-S engines were chosen for their superior fuel efficiency compared to competing medium-bore models.

“The medium-bore engine is the workhorse of deep-sea shipping. Our X-S series brings new efficiency and flexibility to this category,” said Benny Hilström, Vice President of Market Development at WinGD. “It’s engineered to offer low production costs, easy maintenance, and adaptability to future fuels.”

Replacing the RT-flex50 and RT-flex58 engines, the X-S series comes in 52- and 62-bore sizes and is compatible with diesel, LNG, methanol, and ammonia. The platform delivers up to 4% better fuel efficiency, depending on the vessel’s operating profile, and is approximately 15% shorter than long-stroke engines—making it ideal for tighter engine rooms.

Designed with production efficiency in mind, features such as a compact fuel supply unit, reduced-weight components, and simplified maintenance access help lower both manufacturing and operational costs.

The two 6X62-S2.0 engines will be fitted with high-pressure SCR systems to comply with IMO NOx regulations and are scheduled for delivery in late 2026.
