Osprey is strengthening its heavy lifting capabilities with the addition of the 650-tonne class Tadano CC 38.650-1 crawler crane.

This latest addition to the Osprey fleet offers a maximum hook height of 193m and can lift loads of up to 650 tonnes at a 12m radius. The new crane is ideally suited for large-scale infrastructure projects, including HS2, which involves the construction of over 11 miles of viaducts and bridges. Its high capacity and versatility will allow Osprey to undertake complex lifts in demanding environments, often eliminating the need for larger and more costly cranes.

While it is an evolution of the proven CC 3800-1, the new model brings several enhancements. The quick-release couplings on the superstructure reduce transport weights, improving logistical efficiency and minimising axle loadings. Meanwhile, 2-metre-wide tracks enhance ground load distribution, and dual-drive track motors ensure a solid base for stability on uneven terrain. The option to integrate boom booster sections elevates its performance even further—positioning it as a true competitor in the 750-tonne category.

“This latest iteration from Tadano brings several key advantages to our fleet,” said Dean Graham, Osprey’s Operations and QHSE Director. It’s not only a high performer, but also a cost-effective and environmentally responsible solution that supports our ESG commitments.”

The CC 38.650-1 will be deployed across key national projects, including HS2
