WattHub, a joint venture between Van Oord and Betuwewind, is set to open a new 5,000 m² fast-charging plaza on Maasvlakte in Rotterdam in the summer of 2025. Strategically located near the RWG Terminal, this facility will be the first in the area to provide 24/7 fast-charging services for lorries, heavy construction equipment, and other electric vehicles.
Following the success of its first fast-charging plaza in Geldermalsen in 2023, WattHub continues its mission to develop sustainable charging solutions. The Maasvlakte location will support the growing demand for fast-charging infrastructure, particularly in freight transport. With heavy truck traffic passing through the port daily, this initiative aligns with the energy transition goals of the logistics and construction sectors.

Carlos Mollet, Commercial Director at Van Oord, emphasized the importance of sustainable innovation: “This new plaza will be crucial in reducing emissions. It also presents opportunities for maritime charging solutions, reinforcing our commitment to emission-free marine projects.”
Gerben van den Berg, Director at WattHub, highlighted Maasvlakte’s strategic role: “This second WattHub location makes electric freight transport even more practical. Establishing a fast-charging plaza in the Netherlands’ logistics hub is a significant step toward electrification.”

The project may also expand to serve inland shipping and construction vessels, further supporting the region’s shift to cleaner energy solutions.
