Marcegaglia has marked a major milestone with the acquisition of the Liebherr LHM 600, the 2,000th mobile harbour crane produced by the German manufacturer.
To be delivered to Ravenna, Italy, the LHM 600 will play a crucial role in handling steel products such as coils, sheets, and strips. Designed for vessels up to New-Panamax size, the crane’s advanced hydrostatic drive ensures smooth and precise cargo handling, enhancing operational efficiency at the port.
A distinctive feature of this landmark crane is its custom-designed slewing platform, symbolizing the long-standing partnership between Liebherr and Marcegaglia. The artwork showcases two motifs: one side pays homage to Ravenna with an image of the Basilica di Sant’Apollinare Nuovo and local dockworkers, while the other features a lighthouse and German inscription representing Liebherr’s Rostock heritage.
Marcegaglia and Liebherr’s collaboration dates back to 2001 with the introduction of the LHM 400 in Ravenna. Over the years, five additional cranes have been added, reflecting the companies’ shared commitment to quality and efficiency. The new LHM 600, the largest in Ravenna’s fleet, further expands the port’s logistics capacity.
A formal handover ceremony is set for this summer in Ravenna, celebrating the milestone. ‘This LHM 600 exemplifies our dedication to delivering pioneering solutions,’ stated Andreas Ritschel, General Manager Sales at Liebherr-Rostock GmbH.
